firefighters to the hospital. ktvu's rob roth is here and tells us it happened even though the firefighters did everything they were supposed to do. rob? >> reporter: frank, the fire engine involved in yesterday's accident is now out of service. you can see the dent in the bumper that was struck by an suv. that sent four to the hospital, three of them firefighters. >> reporter: the accident happened yesterday, firefighters responded to a car collision on highway 24. the cars were on the shoulder and the firefighters followed protocol. >> we have a procedure that requires them to park the engine at an angle to protect the scene. >> reporter: officials say ideally they would have had a second engine but with so many 911 calls the next closest engine responded to another emergency. >> we were extremely busy yesterday and we didn't have two engines for this emergency. >> reporter: 9:30 a.m. yesterday morning a car clipped the back of the fire truck, moments later a suv strucked the fire -- struck the fire engine. >> we will look at this incident and we will try to identify areas that we can improve

is expected today. rob marciano is following it all from the cnn weather center in atlanta. a lot of rain headed their direction? >> yes. not as much as last week, but the ground is already sat ratur. napa valley has been getting hit hard. the russian river up and over flood banks. now they will ease back into the riverbeds, but with additional rainfall today, it may go back into flood stage there. there is the latest video showing a couple glimmers of sunshine, that was short-lived yesterday. how much rainfall have we seen in the last few days? in a six-day total almost two feet of rain at mount sast ta. sterling city, 21 inches of rainfall. sims, california, 17.9. this is tremendous rainfall for a nontropical area. it has a tropical connection, because it's coming from the direction of hawaii, but still a mid and northern latitude situation. seattle and portland seeing some rain, snow at the higher elevations. if anything is a saving grace, it's a little cooler this go-around, so some of the moisture getting locked up in higher elevations in the form of snow. most of that is well north

morning supervisors. i rob cox and on the board of the castro valley neighborhood association and long time resident of the castro. the castro valley association had a long conversation about this issue and the board frankly was split for a long time whether or not to support supervisor wiener's legislation and we talked a lot about it and the discussion went on for several board meetings over the course of several months. what ended up happening is the issue kind of forced itself again on us as i think it did to you supervisor wiener and the board fully supports this legislation and i think it came down to the abuse of a small group of people imposing their nakedness essentially on the neighborhood without any kind of responsibility about what their actions were going to incur, and i think again it happened once and a while, at a straight fair and nobody had a. >> >> street fair and nobody had a problem with it and against it forced itself into the conversation of the neighborhood and as a neighborhood organization we fully support the legislation, so i will try not to be too hiker

today. let's get right to meteorologist rob marciano. he is following it all from the cnn weather center in atlanta. good morning. >> good morning, zoraida. this is the worst stretch of storms that northern california has seen really in about two years. another punch today then we'll set up for a dry trend. the good news is that it has been dry so the ground, even though we've seen a lot of major flooding, the ground has absorbed a fair amount of it. seattle to portland, rain right now. snow at the highest elevations, and the rain will eventually push down into san francisco and sacramento later on today. this system is actually messing up the atmosphere and creating a lot of warmth across much of the country. if you live anywhere east of the rockies, actually anywhere east of the cascades and sierras, you're feeling it. temperatures, record breaking yesterday, into the 60s and 70s across parts of the midwest. 20 and 30 degrees above average. that would be the case again today, and then a little bit of a cooldown as we go through time. but watching the rain closely across san francisco a
